Interested in Becoming a VR Counselor for the Deaf?
Letter from Julia Smith...
As you are
aware, there is a dire shortage of people trained to be rehabilitation
counselors for the deaf. We receive job announcements weekly for these
positions. They often go unfilled or are filled with people who must
receive training on the job.
You are
receiving this letter because you work in a state that has an agreement
with Western Oregon University for students to receive in-state
tuition rates when they enter WOU's Rehabilitation Counseling:
Deafness master's program. In addition, we have stipends through an RSA
grant to help cover the tuition.
We are recruiting students for the 2006-2007
academic year. Please help us spread the word. Qualified applicants must
have completed their undergraduate degree and be fluent in ASL. The
states that receive the special cut-rate tuition are: AK, AZ, CO, HI,
ID, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA and WY. Information about the program
can be found at www.woud.edu/rrcd
and click on "Rehabilitation Counseling: Deafness Option", or by
contacting Dr. Julia Smith at
smithj@wou.edu,
503-838-8744, or 140.211.118.105 (videophone).
